  GURU MAA SOMA DEVI JI MAHARAJ  – The Blissful Mother

Guru Maa Soma Devi Ji is the present successor and inheritor of Shri Shri 1008 Yogiraj Swami Mohan Dass Ji Maharaj as well as his divine and spiritual legacy. In her role and capacity as the Chairperson of Baba Mohan Dass Trust, she runs, directs, supervises and co-ordinates the multifarious religious, managerial, humanitarian as well as social service activities undertaken at all the Ashrams of Swami Ji. She is now the real motivational and inspirational force for all the devotees and followers of Swami Mohan Dass JI Maharaj.

Guru Maa Soma Devi Ji Maharaj whose birth name was Soma Rani was born at village Jalalpur Jattan (now a Tehsil of district Gujrat in the Punjab province of Pakistan). After the partition of India in 1947, she migrated along with her family to Jalandhar on the Indian side of Punjab. Thereafter, she had her bringing up and schooling at Jalandhar.

The proverb: coming events cast their shadows before, proved to be a gospel truth in her case. She was quite religious minded as well as devoted to worship and prayers right from her childhood. She used to have divine visions even during her tender age. Her quest for the sadguru or the spiritual Master was determined and intense like that of Mira Bai, the renowned woman saint of the Krishna bhakti lore.

The year 1970-71 was a turning point in the life of Soma Rani, when she renounced the worldly life and came to the Jalandhar Ashram of Swami Mohan Dass Ji Maharaj for spiritual initiation. With the consent of her father, she decided to be the inmate of the Ashram. She gave herself completely to practise religious austerities such as prayers, nam jap, fasting, worship and the service of her Sadguru. The process continued for forty two years until her divine transformation was complete.

On 22^nd July 2013, the auspicious day of Guru Pooja (Vyas Pooja), when thousands of devotees assembled at Jalandhar Ashram for celebrating the occasion, Sri Shri 1008 Yogiraj Swami Mohan Dass Ji Maharaj declared her his successor to the Guru Gaddi. She was formally initiated as per sanyasa traditions of India. She got her family name changed from Soma Rani to her religious name Soma Devi. As she vowed to treat all the devotees with equanimity, affection and love of a mother, she got the devout affix “Guru Maa” added to her new name “Soma Devi”. She has kept her vow intact till date as every devotee receives and enjoys her boon and affection impartially in equal measure.

In her role and capacity, as the heir successor of Swami Mohan Dass Ji Maharaj and his Guru Gaddi, she holds the office of the Chairperson of the Baba Mohan Dass Trust (Regd.). As the “Guru Maa”, she guides and monitors the progress of devotees on their religious path with her daily Havana, parvachans, Sankirtan, never fading smile, amiable nature, humility and boon bestowing posture. Like Baba Ji, she serves as an anchor in the turbulent life of devotees. Her presence soothes everyone around her. Moreover, all the work of social service and humanitarian help that the trust undertakes are always with her consent and approval.
